Energy Efficiency | The New Age of Soda Vending Machines

Like so many things in society, soda vending machines have evolved drastically in recent history. Believe it or not the first vending machines were in ancient Greece and invented all the way back in 215 B.C. Similar devices were placed in temples in Egypt and accepted coins so you could purchase holy water.

Now you can buy almost anything in vending machines, including everything from soda to iPads. The new age of soda vending machines are more energy efficient and cost effective driving the purchase of more than 5 billion sodas from vending machines each year.

This makes the business opportunity more enticing than ever. With the fact that the soda vending machine industry has evolved and business owners can partner with the vending machine owner without the fear of high cost of electricity bills the relationship is much more palatable. Many of the brands we offer, including Dixie Narco, are stamped with the approval of Energy Star, the governing body behind the age of energy efficiency.

According to a study at the State University of New York at Buffalo, by switching 132 soda vending machines out for ENERGY STAR approved soda machines, the University was able to save over 250,000kWh of electricity. Yes, you might be thinking of Back to the Future’s Doc Brown, but 250,000kWh of electricity equates to around $20,000 in savings over the course of one year.

Whether you’re a small town mechanic with one soda vending machine or a large corporate campus with 100, the benefit of choosing ENERGY STAR approved soda vending machines is clear. One qualified vending machine uses 50% less energy than a standard model. This does not mean you don’t have to worry about the drinks getting warm, they will be as ice cold as an energy wasting machine. They don’t look any different, work any different, they just work more efficiently, and save you money.

If you’re still using a soda vending machine that isn’t energy efficient, you’re costing yourself money on your investment. Back in 2009, the U.S. Department of Energy put in place a new national standard for all new soda vending machines, in effort to cut 42% of energy used by vending machines nationally. Noah Horowitz, Senior Scientist with the Natural Resources Defense Council had this to say,

“With these standards, we are assured that all new soda vending machines will be energy sippers and not the energy guzzlers of old.”
